This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, and protected when you use the BetterLife mobile application (the “App”).

The App is provided and managed by Ángel L. (the “Developer”, “we”, “us”, “our”), an individual developer operating from Poland. For the purpose of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Developer is the Data Controller responsible for your data.

This policy is a part of our legal agreement with you, which you accept when creating an account.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

a. Information You Provide

  • Name or nickname you choose to enter

  • Email address (for both free and premium users)

  • Messages you send to the AI chatbot

  • Messages you receive from the AI chatbot

  • AI Companion customization data (such as personal context or preferences you ask the AI to remember)

b. Automatically Collected Data

  • Device type and operating system version

  • Language and region settings

  • App usage data (e.g., number of prompts used, feature access, activity timestamps)

Note: While our service providers may process your IP address as a necessary part of internet communication, we do not store or use your IP address within our application database for tracking or identification purposes. We do not collect precise location data.

2. Sensitive Data Notice

Because the App is designed to support wellbeing and self-reflection, some messages may include sensitive personal data related to mental or emotional health. We handle such data with strict confidentiality and in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To provide and personalize your experience in the App

  • To respond to your inputs via the AI assistant

  • To manage both free and premium account features

  • To analyze app usage and improve features

  • To offer user support and respond to inquiries

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data under the following legal bases as defined by the GDPR:

  • Performance of a Contract: We process your name, email, and subscription status to create and manage your account and deliver the core services you requested, as laid out in our Terms of Use.

  • Explicit Consent: We process the sensitive data you provide in the AI chats only after you have given your specific, explicit consent via the checkbox during account creation. You can withdraw this consent at any time, which may limit your ability to use the chat features.

  • Legitimate Interest: We process aggregated and anonymized usage data to understand how our App is used and to improve its features, security, and performance. Our interest in improving our service does not override your fundamental rights and freedoms.

5. Sharing of Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share information with trusted third-party service providers ("sub-processors") who are essential for the App to function. Each provider is bound by strict data protection and confidentiality obligations.

Our sub-processors include:

  • OpenAI, L.L.C.: Processes the content of your messages via their API to generate the AI Companion's responses. As per our agreement with OpenAI, they are contractually prohibited from using API data to train their models.

  • Bubble Group, Inc.: The development platform on which the App is built. It hosts our backend infrastructure and database.

  • RevenueCat, Inc.: Manages and verifies your subscription status (free or premium) with the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. RevenueCat does not process your payment details (like credit card numbers).

  • Mixpanel, Inc.: Provides product analytics that help us understand how users interact with the App (e.g., which features are most used). This data is used solely to improve the App's functionality and user experience, not for advertising.

  • Postmark (from ActiveCampaign, LLC): Sends essential transactional emails, such as for account creation and password recovery.

  • Natively: The service used to wrap our web application into the native iOS and Android app that you install.

  • App Stores (Apple & Google): Process payments for premium subscriptions through their secure billing systems. We do not receive or store your payment information.

All third-party providers are required to comply with relevant data protection laws and confidentiality standards.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data for up to 14 days for both free and premium users.

  • After 14 days, user messages, chat logs, and related data are automatically deleted.

  • App usage data may be stored in anonymized or aggregated form to improve functionality.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below.

7. Your Rights Under GDPR

As a user in the European Union, you have the right to:

  • Access – know what personal data we hold about you

  • Rectify – correct incorrect or incomplete data

  • Erase – request full deletion of your data

  • Withdraw consent – at any time

  • Restrict or object to certain forms of data processing

8. Security Measures

We rely on secure platforms such as Bubble.io and OpenAI to help us protect your personal data. These services use modern cloud infrastructure and HTTPS encryption to manage and transmit data securely.

We limit access to personal data within the app and avoid collecting unnecessary identifiers (such as location or biometric data).

However, no online service can guarantee 100% security. You use the app at your own discretion and risk.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not intended for or directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If you are under the age of 18, you may not use the App or provide us with any personal data. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from an individual under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in law, app features, or technology.

If changes are significant, we will notify users within the App or via email if applicable.
